The Arnold Bennett Collection

Arnold Bennett's Walking Cane

Wooden walking cane with a shell case handle inscribed 'AB' and 'Maricourt 1916', previously owned by Arnold Bennett. Maricourt is on the Somme and saw fierce fighting during World War I. Bennett was involved the the War Propaganda Bureau and made visits to the Front during the war.

Previously owned by the great grandson of Captain George Prior, of Brightlingsea, Essex, the Captain of Bennett's private yachts. Given to Captain Prior by Arnold Bennett.

Purchased by The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in 2006, with financial assistance from The Friends of the Potteries Museums & Art Gallery, The Arnold Bennett Society and The Museum Purchase Fund
