Agnete Hoy came to England from Denmark in 1939 but the outbreak of war prevented her return. She came to Stoke-on-Trent and studied at Burslem School of Art. In 1940 she was appointed Art Director of Bullers, producing a range of oven-to-table ware, tea and coffee sets and cooking ware and later, decorative wares such as, vases, bowls and covered dishes.Glazes had natural qualities of jade and soapstone, and subtle shades of brown, grey, celadon greens and honey, forming a bridge between industrial and studio pottery. In 1952 she joined Doulton's Lambeth factory, leaving in 1956 to teach and continue her own pottery work.
