Japan
Bowl
Porcelain bowl with white glaze and pink and white enamel tulips on stems with large green leaves. The base of the foot is unglazed.
Japanese studio porcelain, Makuzu Kozan.
Kyoto, Japan, 1900-1915, Meiji period.
For examples of Kozan's work, with similar designs to those of this bowl, see 'Treasures of Imperial Japan, Ceramics from the Khalili Collection', National Museum of Wales, 1994. Kozan's porcelains were marked in an evolution of his signature, after 1900 this developed into an imitation of a Chinese seal mark which continued until 1915 when it began to be written inside a double circle.
