Etruria Industrial Museum provides an oasis in the heart of a busy city. This peaceful attraction offers a quiet place to watch local wildfowl and nature. The Museum site once housed the Staffordshire’s first hospital and the National Garden Festival and is now the location for a fascinating museum for all ages to enjoy.

Hands on Science

An interactive gallery, designed with children in mind bring science to life. Learn about forces and the science behind the Mill’s machinery.

Visit the ‘Princess’ and find out how the Victorians turned bones into china.

Explore Jessey Shirley’s Bone and Flint Mill and see our 1820s steam-driven engine”the Princess”, and the 1903 coal-fired boiler.

The original grinding machinery on display was used to crush bone and flint to create raw materials for some of the world’s finest bone china.


Explore the Museums outbuildings

The Museum site has many outbuildings to explore including a forge and canal check office.

Canal Check Office

Open on selected dates, working boatmen would pay their toll and where tolls were calculated depending on how much cargo they were bringing onto the Caldon Canal, now furnished in a 1940s style.
