There will also be two reproduction long boats present at the event allowing visitors to discover about trade and navigation and take part in a naval battle with one of the boats in the canal.
In addition there will be an interactive performance of Beowulf which will give guests an insight into the belief system of the Anglo-Saxons. Visitors can find out about Anglo-Saxon myths and legends with a presentation that includes a dragon and other mythical creatures.
Councillor Hazel Lyth, cabinet member for economic development and culture, said: “The Staffordshire Hoard has brought a great deal of interest for the Anglo-Saxons to Stoke-on-Trent and allowed us to set up hands on events like this to demonstrate their way of life. We are in the fortunate position to provide so many great exhibitions following the Hoards discovery and it will be a wonderful sight to see a Saxon long boat docked outside the museum.”
This event celebrates the discovery of the Staffordshire Hoard and is intended to highlight the culture of Anglo-Saxon society in a fun, informative and interesting way.
The free event will take place on Sunday March 28, between 12pm and 4pm.
