Weird and wonderful art to go on show at city museum
A five-legged donkey dressed in its finest tweed suit is among a selection of weird and wonderful exhibits which will go on show from next weekend at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery.
The sculpture entitled, …and a five-legged donkey, by Laura Ford, will join acollection of exhibits, many of which have been acquired through the Contemporary Art Society. Some of the key acquisitions featured in this show, include striking works by Walter Sickert and William Coldstream, plus Turner Prize winners, Grayson Perry and Mark Wallinger.
These works are displayed alongside more
traditional items from the museum’s collections.
The display around the gallery highlights the similarities
and differences between the art of the past and the present, and
various styles and techniques.
This exhibition marks the centenary of the Contemporary Art Society, which throughout its history has supported the development of contemporary art collections. The Society has donated more than 8,000 works to institutions across Britain and continues to support the commissioning of new works for public enjoyment.
