Our Wedding at Ford Green hall

Why Ford Green Hall?

Well, we had a long search to find the perfect venue for our wedding and when we visited Ford Green Hall for the first time, we breathed a sigh of relief - it fitted the bill perfectly.

We both have a love of history, especially the 16th and 17th centuries and we wanted to reflect our interests by getting married in a historical building.  We are both musicians and have our own group performing music of the Elizabethan period, playing reproductions of historical instruments and wearing appropriate costume.  However – our wedding was to be in 21st century clothes.

We decided to have a small wedding, just immediate family and very close friends – the big party was going to come later.  Other venues we looked at were either too large, too expensive or too “froufrou” and we were beginning to despair of finding something that matched our requirements.  Ford Green Hall had the right “feel” – relaxed, intimate and comfortable.

Our wedding day will be a day we will both treasure forever.  It was perfect!

We were a small party, just 14 in total.  We all arrived together in a mini bus complete with our own flower arrangements and champagne.  The Registrar made us feel relaxed but even so, there were a few nerves!  We had spent a lot of time thinking about readings and music for the ceremony and these made it “Our Wedding” and at times emotions were high.  Two members of our group, June and Steve, played some 16th century music on their violin and guitar – pieces they knew we would love – whilst we were signing the register.

The staff could not have been more helpful – serving food, operating the CD player, pouring champagne and just simply making us feel welcome and looking after us superbly.  The food provided by the Hall was very much of the Tudor period and excellent quality.  Particularly special was the commemorative slipware plate, again of the period, that had our names on together with the date of our wedding.  A wonderful memento of our day and unique to us.

There was quite a bit of media attention because it was also the day that Charles and Camilla got married.  The Sentinel paid a visit and wanted to know if their wedding being on the same day made any difference or affected our plans.  It didn’t, as we’d booked our day first!   We wonder if the Sentinel had asked Charles and Camilla the same question!

In fact, it was all so good, we’d love to do it again sometime!
