Resources for use during a visit to The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery

At the museum

1. Foyer
The way in to our museum

Look out for:

the toilets
the shop
the reception desk
the visitor services staff, who will help you if you can’t find something

2. Natural History Gallery

Animals and plants which live around Stoke-on-Trent.

What am I?

One student chooses one of the animals in the cases. The other members of the group must try to find out which animal has been chosen by asking questions: for example, how many legs has it got? or, does it eat fish? The person who guesses the right answer chooses the next animal.

3. Archaeology Gallery

Things found in the ground that tell us how people lived a long time ago.

Look in the cases. Can you find…

something sharp?
something with a hole in it?
something with a face?
something shiny?

4. Social History Gallery

How people lived more recently.

In which display would you:

buy medicine?
play cards or dominoes?
learn to read?
buy your dinner?
wash your clothes?

5. Spitfire gallery

Our Spitfire and other things connected with the Second World War.

Read the information panels to find out:

What is a Spitfire?
Why do we have one in our museum?
Who designed the Spitfire?

When was he born?
When did he die?

 spitfire
