Ancient Greek Day

Pupils will try on a chiton costume, perform a Greek myth, learn about the Olympics, see 2,500 year old pots and make their own Greek pot to take home during this popular, two hour themed event.
2 hour visit, £3.50 per pupil

World War 2 Make Do and Mend

Meet our ARP warden to find out about local air raids and life on the home front. Discover how people in the 1940s recycled just like today and reuse scrap cloth to make a rag rug.

Tudor Textiles

6, 7 March
Do you know your warp from your weft? Be inspired by the Tudors to make a framed, woven wall hanging. Get creative and choose your own natural and recycled materials to weave with. Then dress up in Tudor costumes to find out the differences between the rich and the poor.

Animal Crackers

12 to 16 March
Go creatively crackers with an animal themed visit to the museum. Make an animal pot from clay inspired by our ceramics collection or visit the natural history gallery and create a mask of your favourite animal. Then explore further with the animal trail.

Is making pottery a reversible or irreversible change? Learn about changing materials and the properties of pottery as we explore the science of clay. This special workshop activity is held as part of National Science & Engineering Week.

Earth Science Week

Pan for gold and gemstones to take home, test the properties of rocks and discover which minerals were used in the pottery industry at the Etruria Mill.

School groups making educational visits (tours and/or workshops) to our museums do not have to pay VAT. To qualify for these group rates we ask that schools pay fo a minimum of 10 pupils. Please note that schools cancelling event bookings less than 2 weeks before the visit date may be charged the full amount.
