Celebrate the Year of the Dragon at the museum with a wide range of traditional Chinese dancing, demonstrations and craft activities.

To begin the festivities the colourful and lively dragon dance will perform to the sound of firecrackers. Throughout the day there will also be lion dancing, ribbon dancing, Chinese acrobats, martial arts displays and much more.

Children from the local Chinese community will be performing traditional music and
dance in the theatre and there will also be a short recital of Cantonese Opera. Craft
activities include origami, Chinese writing and painting.

The Cantonese Opera this year will be from ‘Tang Bohu in Romance of Temple’.

Tang ran into Lady Hua Taishi’s servant Autumn, Autumn smiles to him a total of three times. Tang decided to pursue, willing to sell himself to become Hua Taishi’s servant to teach their two sons in order to get close to Autumn.

Tang bohu’s friend, Zhu Yumming heard there is an outstanding literary talent in Hua Taishi’s House, he suspected is the missing Tang bohu, so he pays a visit to Hua Taishi to find out the truth.

Tang saw Zhu and asked him for help on how to get close to Autumn and marry her.

The Stoke – on –Trent’s Chinese Opera club’s performance begins when Tang told Hua Taishi he must leave and join Zhu’s family to teach. Hai Taishi refuses and asks him why? Tang told Hua Taishi that Zhu allows him to pick one of their female servants to be his wife.

Hua Taishi immediately counter offers that he can also allow him to pick from his female servants to be his wife and that includes Autumn.
