'Shopscape' Photographic display
24 Mar 12 - 7 May 12
As part of the Picturing the Potteries community engagement programme, photographer James Capper has been commissioned to explore Stoke-on-Trent’s culturally diverse and vibrant landscape through ‘shops’.
Shopscape is a photographic display of local businesses run by people from a range of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds in Stoke-on-Trent and its surrounding area.
Many local shops run by people from different communities are more than just businesses. They can act as social hubs and provide links to a homeland, as well as a visual and tangible connection with where they now live and work.
Featuring photographs and a film montage, Shopscape explores the unique role that local businesses play in Stoke-on-Trent's communities, from an Indian grocery store in Shelton to a guitar shop in Hanley.
