Deposition of Archaeological Archives

The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery is the official archaeological repository for the County of Staffordshire. The Museum houses a large and important collection of archaeological material, spanning almost 12,000 years of human activity in the area.

It is important that archives deposited at the museum are prepared in accordance with our conditions and guidelines. This includes early consultation and co-operation between excavator and museum. A fee is usually charged to contribute to the long term storage and curation of the archive.

The guidelines are intended to ensure the long-term well-being of the archive, and to ensure that it is accessible to researchers, students, and the general public.
