Museum Flying Machine Challenge
To celebrate the return of the Spitfire to The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, the museum is setting you a challenge!
Can you design and make a flying machine using sturdy but light everyday objects such as paper straws, balloons, paper cups, paper bags or the materials of your choosing? To help you could refer to the principles of flight: lift, weight, thrust and drag.
The competition is open to schools and families. There are three different age categories: 5 – 7 years, 8 – 11 years and
12 – 16 years. The individual winner in each age category will receive a goody bag. Entries will be judged on the furthest distance flown and/or their creative design. The entries will also feature on The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery online Community Gallery.
Each entry will need to complete a worksheet with a plan of their flying machine and information such as how far it flew and what materials it is made from. We cannot accept the actual model, so please also attach a photograph of your entry.
All entries need to be emailed to [email protected] by 5pm on 30 November 2021. Winners will be notified by 10 December 2021.
