The Spitfire will be leaving the museum to begin an incredible new adventure to be re-born. It will be restored to its former glory and return to the City as the star of a new display. The newly restored aircraft will be returned to the museum in 2019.
To enable us to deliver this exciting project we will need to close the Spitfire Gallery from Wednesday 17 January. There will then be full museum closure from Monday 22 January and re-open Saturday 10 February.
Our café however will remain open during this period serving a selection of light lunches and homemade cakes. Access will be via the side of the museum opposite the library.
We will still be taking museum and tourist information enquiries and bookings throughout the period.
Please see our Facebook page for further updates.

Our Spitfire may be away until 2019, but you can still see a Spitfire near Stoke-on-Trent this year thanks to our friends at Foxfield Railway. The War Wheels 2018 event at Foxfield Railway will feature a genuine RAF Spitfire, with its mighty Merlin engine being fired up throughout the weekend – and with a chance for a lucky raffle winner to sit in the cockpit!
